Residents and Visitors


Resident Information

Clients undergoing treatment at the Camillus Centre can expect to:

  • Be involved in group therapy (not one on one counseling).
  • Participate in all aspects of the program.
  • Receive and give pertinent feedback within the group process.
  • Follow a daily schedule and arrive 5 minutes early to all pre-arranged activities.
  • Express and work on feelings, as treatment at Camillus Centre is an experiential process.
  • Receive exposure to outside 12-Step meetings (A.A., N.A. and/or Alanon).
  • Provide regular and random urine screen samples.
  • Luggage and personal belongings search required at admission , as well as possible future random room and personal belongings searches.
  • Receive orientation sessions highlighting guidelines.
  • Take medications as prescribed.
  • Maintain all aspects of one’s health (i.e. monitoring blood sugar levels, following a special diet if diabetic, etc.).

Unacceptable Behaviours:

  • Arriving at the centre not having met the clean and sober requirements.
  • As per the Human Rights Code, discrimination will not be tolerated.
  • The Oaks Centre has a zero tolerance for violence policy. Threatening, aggressive, intimidating or disruptive behavior will NOT be tolerated.
  • Fraternization (romantic or exclusive relationships) within the therapeutic community.
  • Breaching the confidentiality of others.
  • Entering another client’s room.
  • Using drugs or alcohol on the premises or attempting to abuse prescribed medication(s).
  • Having possession of contraband items—not turned over as per centre policy.

Chemical Dependency (Youth and Adult) / Family and Stage 2 Program Overview:

  • Daily journal entries
  • Step-work assignments (Steps 1 – 5)
  • Morning meditation
  • Art therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Daily exercise and free time
  • Life story
  • Videos and group discussions
  • Outside A.A. meetings
  • In-house aftercare meetings (Thursdays)

  • Medical Consultant Topic Series (ie: Smoking Cessation, Anxiety, Depression, etc.)
  • Boundaries and Sexuality
  • How A.A. Works
  • Steps 1 – 4
  • Transition from Treatment to A.A.
  • Feelings, Attitudes and Behaviours
  • Steps and Traditions
  • Shame and Guilt
  • Relapse Prevention
  • Acceptance/Forgiveness
  • The Deadly Deceptive D’s

Be Prepared:

  • Your program begins on the day of your admission.
  • If you answer openly and honestly, will enable your peers and counselor to get to know you better.
  • We hope that your treatment experience will be a new beginning for recovery in your life.
  • Trust the process!
  • Trust your heart and go with the reason that motivated you to call.

Visitors

PHONE CALLS:

Residents will have access to a pay phone for outgoing calls on Sundays only (unless otherwise approved by his or her counselor). Phone calls can be made between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. Phone calls are limited to 10 minutes each as there will be several people wanting to use the phone. It is recommended you bring a calling card or a pre-paid phone card for long distance calls. Phone restrictions are in place to enable you to focus on your treatment and recovery, as opposed to external issues.

Messages for residents are taken by the receptionist and forwarded to clients via their counselor.  All emergencies are addressed immediately.
